Bentley Town Council Approves Land Sales, Library Board Appointments, and Infrastructure Advocacy
The Bentley Town Council convened on September 9, 2025, for a regular meeting where they addressed a variety of issues, making decisions that will shape the town's future. Mayor Greg Rathjen called the meeting to order, acknowledging that the council was meeting on Treaty 6 Territory.
Land Sales Approved
Council approved the sale of three lots within the Sunset Heights Subdivision, signaling continued progress in the area's development. The lots and purchasers are:
* 4814 55th Ave (Lot 3, Block 2, Plan 1521374) to Billex Enterprises Ltd. for $49,900 (plus GST).
* 5603 48A Street Close (Lot 47, Block 1, Plan 2320333) to Billex Enterprises Ltd. for $56,900 (plus GST).
* 5516 48A Street (Lot 39, Block 1, Plan 2320333) to Pavel Denisov for $63,900 (plus GST).
These sales bring the total number of lots sold in Sunset Heights since 2024 to nine, with one additional lot scheduled to close in 2026. With three homes already built and two under construction, these sales are expected to boost Bentley's tax base.
Library Board Appointments
Council approved the following appointments to the Town of Bentley Library Board:
* Kathy Pike as Chairperson (June 2025 to June 2028)
* Robin Lemay as Deputy Chairperson (June 2025 to June 2027)
* Maureen Rue as Treasurer (June 2025 to June 2028)
* Joan Dickau as Director (June 2025 to June 2026)
* Carol Hamelin as Director (June 2025 to June 2026)
* Pam Hansen as Town of Bentley Council Representative (until the October Municipal Election)
* Alan Wilson as Lacombe County Council Representative (until the October Municipal Election)
These appointments will ensure the continued effective management and direction of the Bentley Municipal Library, which has served the community since 1949.
Infrastructure Advocacy
CAO Marc Fortais presented the 2nd Quarter Budget Presentation and Financial Report, including a discussion on advocacy. Council directed CAO Fortais to request a meeting with the Honourable Dan Williams, Minister of Municipal Affairs, at the Alberta Municipalities Conference. The meeting will focus on stability in CCBF and LGFF funding and funding for the 50th Street (Dick Damron Drive) sewer rehabilitation project. Furthermore, CAO Fortais will request a meeting with Minister Jason Nixon to discuss the potential for building seniors housing on Town of Bentley-owned land.
Other Business
Council held an in-camera session to discuss CAO evaluations, in accordance with the Access to Information Act-Division 2 Exceptions to Disclosure.
