Bentley Town Council Approves Sports Field Development and Supports Westview Apartments

Bentley, AB - The Bentley Town Council convened on July 8th, 2025, for its regular meeting, addressing several key items impacting the community. Mayor Greg Rathjen called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM, with all council members present.

A significant decision was made regarding the Bentley Sports Field Development. Council approved the award of RFT 2025-01 to Park Landscaping Ltd. for $266,606.80 to complete the mandatory items for the project. These include site signage, topsoil preparation, seeding, temporary irrigation, and the installation of post and rope fencing, parking stops, and soccer goal systems. According to the motion, the Town administration will continue to work with Minor Soccer to undertake additional fundraising to support the provisional items in the 2026 budget, such as the precast toilet structure and bleachers.

Council also voted to support Westview Apartments' application to the CFEP Grant. Councillor Valiquette moved that the CAO be directed to write a letter of support. The letter, to be signed by Mayor Rathjen on behalf of Council, will bolster Westview Apartments' efforts to secure funding for upgrades, such as roof and eavestrough replacement, as well as upgrades to the building's hall and common areas.

In other business, council accepted a report on landscaping standards within the Town of Bentley Subdivision as information. This followed previous discussions regarding landscaping standards for the Sunset Heights Subdivision.

The Council also reviewed correspondence from Lacombe County Council Highlights and accepted the June Council Reports, including updates from Mayor Rathjen, Deputy Mayor Hansen, and Councillors Eastman, Grimsdale, and Valiquette, as information.

The meeting adjourned at 7:10 PM. These decisions are expected to bring improvements to recreational facilities and support senior living within the Town of Bentley.
