Bentley Town Council Approves Land Sales, Addresses Post Office Concerns
Bentley Town Council convened on June 24, 2025, for its regular meeting, addressing several key items impacting the community. Mayor Greg Rathjen called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM, beginning with an Indigenous acknowledgement.
The council approved the sale of two lots in the Sunset Heights Subdivision. Lot 40, Block 1, Plan 2320333 (5602 48A Street Close) was sold to Dwayne and Rita Ewanchuk for $63,000, while Lot 36, Block 1, Plan 2320333 (5510 48A Street) was sold to Martin Ricard and Kimberley Dawn Bisaillion for $55,000. Both sales are "as is-where is," with the purchasers responsible for all legal and registration fees. These sales are expected to stimulate residential development within the Sunset Heights Subdivision.
CAO evaluations were also discussed, with Deputy Mayor Hansen raising the issue. Council moved to ensure these evaluations are completed by August 26, 2025. "Completing the CAO Evaluations is essential for accountability and effective governance," stated Deputy Mayor Hansen.
In other business, Mayor Rathjen updated the council and public on recent changes affecting the Bentley Post Office. Residents are now required to travel to Lacombe to renew their PO boxes. While no motion was made, Mayor Rathjen assured those present that he is actively working to address the issue with Canada Post, stating that "Mayor and council were working on addressing the issues."
The council also received information on the Gull Lake watershed restoration efforts and Lacombe County Council highlights. The meeting was adjourned at 7:49 PM.
