Bentley Town Council Approves Utility Bylaw and 2025 Tax Rates
Bentley Town Council convened on May 27th for their regular meeting, addressing a range of financial and regulatory matters. The meeting commenced with an acknowledgement of Treaty 6 Territory and the homelands of the Metis Nation Region 3.
Council members approved the agenda and adopted the minutes from the previous meeting on May 13th. They then reviewed the prepaid cheque listing (Cheques No. 20250243 to 20250273) for informational purposes.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to new business. Council accepted and approved the 1st Quarter Financial Report for the Town of Bentley, providing an overview of the town's financial standing.
Bylaw #252-2025, the Utility Bylaw, underwent all three readings and was ultimately approved. This bylaw regulates the operation and control of water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste services within the town. The impact of this bylaw will be felt by all premises owners, residents, and customers utilizing the Town's public utilities.
Council also passed Bylaw 253/2025, the Tax Rate Bylaw for the 2025 Tax Year. This bylaw establishes the mil rates (property tax rates) for the current tax year. In addition, Bylaw 254/2025 regarding the supplementary assessment and taxation of mobile homes for the 2025 Tax Year, also passed after all three readings. The approval of these two bylaws sets the framework for property taxes within the Town for the 2025 tax year.
Councilor Grimsdale motioned to accept the Lacombe County Council Highlights from May 8, 2025, as information.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM. No further business was discussed.
